Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) occurs when a blood clot forms in one of the deep veins of your body, usually in your legs, but it can also happen in your arms, pelvis, lungs, or even your brain.
If a blood clot breaks free and travels through your veins to your heart and lungs, it can get stuck and prevent blood flow.
Blood clots can cause stroke or heart attack which is why you need to know how to recognize if they happen and seek medical help.
This is how you can recognize if someone is in danger of a blood clot:
- Pain or tenderness in the legs
- Unexplained cough
- Shortness of breaths
- Chest pain with deep breathing
- Red streaks on your skin
- Leg swelling
You need to remember that blood clots can have fatal consequences if not treated in time so if you notice that you or someone else is exhibiting the above mentioned symptoms seek immediate medical help and blood clot treatment.
